Candor
By: Pam Bachorz

A town where perfection hides a sinister truth...

In Candor, kids do whatever they're told. In Candor, everything seems perfect. However, in Candor you don't have a choice. Every problem child in Candor is brought to and brainwashed by Oscar's father. Parents come into town with their unruly children and leave with a perfectly behaved angel. All day they get messages sent into their brain telling them how they should behave. Messaged like, "Respectful space in every place,” Avoid physical contact," and “Academics are the key to success.” These messages keep the kids from doing anything creative or being an individual. Only Oscar can keep the messages out of his mind, and disobey them. Oscar uses his secret ability to find rich kids and help them escape from Candor, for a price. His latest find is Nia. But what if Nia just won't accept his help? And what if Oscar can't save the only person he really cares for?

Candor was amazing. Bachorz did a fantastic job of creating an impossibly distinct town. I didn't expect to get so wrapped up in the story. I love books that demonstrate this high level of creativity. Right from the start, I couldn't help but love Oscar and could really relate to his stress and sadness. Nia was also an amazing character. It's easy to see that I loved this book! Not only was the plot strong throughout the entire novel, but the wonderful characters were like the icing on the cake. I would definitely recommend this book to teens that feel like reading something unlike anything they've ever read before.
