This is the extraordinary tale of a girl living up to her namesake, against nearly impossible odds. Phoebe Rothschild was born into a rich family rooting back to Mayer Rothschild, known for growing up with nothing and then making a life for himself with his extraordinary mind and his talented sons. Phoebe's life was normal, as normal as a rich girl's could be, until Mallory, the new girl in school, steps in. Phoebe is drawn to Mallory, and drops her old snotty "friends" for her. The two girls' relationship morphs into the best of friends, until Mallory's older brother Ryland shows up in town. Phoebe is immediately attracted to this man, and she starts to change for him. Mallory and Ryland are not ordinary people, in fact they are not even human. They are fey on a mission from the Faerie Queen, and it has something to do with the Rothschild girl. Phoebe must save herself, and to do that she must prove that she is more than they think.
Nancy Werlin, author of Impossible, has written another amazing novel. Her character craftwork is absolutely stunning, where she delivers human and faerie beings that will spark love-hate relationships with readers (so much that I wanted to physically involve myself in the story). Her plot is original and different from anything currently on the market, and her writing is utterly moving. She explores the foundations of friendship, the complexion of romance, and the strength it takes to have respect not only for others, but for yourself. There are few novels like Extraordinary that have this perfect blend of features. If you've read Impossible, you will be even more impressed with Extraordinary, but I would also suggest this to any fans of fiction with a fantastical twist and beautiful movement. Extraordinary truly lives up to it's title.
