This World We Live In
By: Susan Beth Pfeffer
The World We Live In is part two of Miranda Evan's story. Miranda was a girl living in a normal world, or so it seemed. When a meteor strikes the moon and moves it closer to Earth, everything changes. The world, as it seems, is at its end. People are living with barely any food, and it hasn't rained in months. A year later, and Miranda and her family are still thriving. People are beginning to disappear, and Miranda begins to question whether she can make it any farther. That is until her father, who left over a year ago, and his wife and new baby arrive at the house. Along with them, are others, including Alex, a religious boy, who is Miranda's age. After a devastating tornado hits their town, Miranda must make choices that change her life, forever.
I read the first book, Life as we Knew it a couple of months ago. I never got a chance to read Alex's story, but when he was introduced in this book, I knew that his background would be interesting. I was glad to revisit Miranda and her family, and was intrigued with how far they had come. My favorite character would have to be Miranda, just because of the way she acts when faced with this situation. I found myself upset when the whole book ended because I knew that there wasn't going to be any books. A lot of the characters, such as Matt, got on my nerves. He never seemed to fit into the scheme of the book, and when he came back with a new wife, it seemed to jump at me as a reader. Overall I really liked this book, and would recommend it to anyone interest in fiction, adventure, and survival.
