Have you ever tried to see if you have a celebrity lookalike? In My Double Life, by Janette Rallison, Alexia Garcia has always been told that she looks almost exactly like rock star Kari Kingsley. However, rather than living Kari's glamorous Hollywood lifestyle, Alexia lives in rural West Virginia with her mother and her Abuela. One day, a photo of Alexia begins to make its way around the internet, leading to the job opportunity of a lifetime - Alexia is offered the chance to be Kari's double.
Against her mother's wishes, Alexia flies of to California to take the job, hoping to earn money for college and get closer to meeting the dad she's never known. Things get complicated when Alexia begins to spend time with her celebrity crush and finds out who her father is... but she can't tell either one of them who she really is. Will Alexia be able to pull of being Kari's double while remaining true to herself?
I really enjoyed My Double Life. It was a very fast, fun, and funny read, with a pleasantly surprising amount of depth. Normally, I find that books about Hollywood and celebrity lifestyles are more of guilty-pleasure reads; however, My Double Life had plenty of twists and turns that kept the plot interesting, not to mention a very heartfelt and emotional storyline. I found the plot very original and interesting as well; it made me wonder if any of the celebrities I've seen in person use doubles, and how that would make me feel if I found out.
Without giving anything away, the ending was very satisfying while also feeling quite realistic. Rallison's writing style and Alexia's voice are very engaging, making this book quite a page-turner. I would definitely recommend My Double Life to anyone looking for a fun read that is also smart, interesting, and original.
