Over the Edge
By: Norah McClintok

In Over the Edge by Norah McClintock, Chloe, a typical, indifferent and slightly rebellious teenager, is having a difficult time adjusting to several significant changes in her life. Not only was her mother recently remarried to a deputy police officer, but her stepfather has moved the family to the new town of East Hastings. Chloe is not fond of East Hastings and desperately misses her friends and hometown of Montreal.

As Chloe begins to adapt to the small town and the small town's rigid social hierarchy, the town experiences a tragedy in the untimely and unexpected suicide of the high school's social outcast, Peter Flosnick. Chloe does not know how to make sense of Peter Flosnick's mother believing that Chloe and Peter were close friends when Chloe remembers only speaking two words to Peter…ever. As Chloe becomes more and more immersed in the social complexities of East Landing, she also gets closer and closer to East Landing’s secrets. With her stepfather formally investigating the alleged suicide, Chloe begins an investigation of her own which has permanent implications and consequences for some of Chloe’s new friendships.

This book is an easy and quick read. It is very simple and enjoyable. However, it also lacks the complexities and depths of other mystery novels. It is a perfect book for those that are entertained by simple but short, entertaining, mysteries. For those that prefer more thorough, intricate and complex plots, this book may not fulfill.
