Faerie Winter
By: Janni Lee Simner

Winter has finally come, and at first the weakening of the flesh-seeking trees in the forest seems like a good thing, but now the crops are failing, a strange boy is staying in her village that might be a killer, and a dangerous new faerie enemy, The Lady, is planning to take her revenge by killing all humans. Liza must save her friends and village from the Lady, and her entire world from winter’s dangerous sleep.

I’ve been dying to read Janni Lee Simner’s Faerie Winter from the moment I heard Bones of Faerie had a sequel, so I was really excited to receive this book in the mail! I was not disappointed! The way faerie magic changed Liza’s world and inhabitants continued to capture my imagination.

I absolutely loved the descriptions of how innocent plants and creatures like trees, ragweed, and glowworms became dangerous from the effects of magic, and how the evolution of other predators such as owls and hawks made them a serious threat to humanity. The new powers children developed were awesome as well, ranging from manipulating the elements to talking to animals and insects. The mother-daughter relationship and character development of Liza were easily the most interesting part about Faerie Winter after the magic.

I sympathized with Liza as she struggled to forgive her mother for leaving her alone with her father and tried to understand why she chose what she chose. I enjoyed reading about how she grew both in her magic and in her relationship with Mattew. Their romance was slow, utterly sweet, and I really liked it. The cover is stunning! Every time I look at it I fall in love with it all over again. It’s such a simple design, but so powerful. I loved everything about this book. Faerie Winter is a book I can read again and again. I am eagerly awaiting book three!
