Emmi was an all star girl, popular, and star of the varsity soccer team. After her 16th birthday however, she receives news that crush all of her hopes and dreams. She is diagnosed with Myocarditis, which has destroyed her heart and put her at risk of heart failure. Without a heart transplant, Emmi could die, with one, she forever changes the way she is. While waiting, Emmi is faced with challenges, accepting the new life she must live, and praying that a heart arrives for her on time. On top of her heart, tragedy strikes her home, her support system. Emmi must learn to pull from her own inner strength, in order to fight for her life.
When receiving this book, it really hit home for the reason that a family member of mine went through a similar ordeal. Emmi seemed to have the perfect life, until one thing changed it all. No longer can she live the life she has built for herself. This book really plays on the theme that you shouldn’t take your life for granted, and to live everyday like it’s your last.
Immediately starting the book I grew attached to Emmi. I felt bad for her because she is hit with bad news all at the same time. The way Shari Maurer describes Emmi makes you feel like you are actually in her shoes. Sometime in the middle of the book, I did get annoyed with Emmi. Her self doubt became almost annoying. It made me wish I could actually go into the book and keep her going. Overall, this book was a beautiful work that puts like into perspective. I would recommend it to anyone, and everyone.
