The Magician is the second book in The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott and it picks up where The Alchemyst left off. This one features the twins Sophie and Josh along with Nicholas and Scatty, the vampire, in Paris. Paris is Nicholas’s home but the bad guys are already there waiting for them. Machiavelli and Dee are both looking for Nicholas and the last pages of the codex and it leads to a lot of action and an exciting story.
They also go to Saint-Germain to learn the magic of fire and Josh gets the legendary sword Clarent while there. Only one of the twins excels with the magic of fire and that creates animosity between the two of them, which the bad guys think they might be able to use against them. There’s even a monster that is unleashed on them in Paris which leads to a really exciting ending that fans are sure to love.
This is the best book out of the two in the series so far. It has the most action, the most varied characters, and it wasn’t boring at any part. The story is fast moving and exciting numerous times throughout this book. There were a couple of surprises in there that I wasn’t expecting. More than the first book, the draw of this volume is the amount of action and the story progression.
All of the characters have an important part in the storyline. There are so many fights that happen and so many different things take place in the story. It seems like it could have been too books in the series instead of just one, but I guess that’s a good thing because I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
